Depression
When referring to the term Depression we mean something that is more serious than having a bad mood for a few days or minutes during the day. A person with depression feels so sad that his/her life is affected to a significant degree for a significant time. Other symptoms include loss of appetite, sleep problems, diminished interest in sexual activity and diminished pleasure in things that were enjoyable in the past.
Depression appears both in adults and children. Early onset seems to predispose its continuation into adult life, while the existence of the disorder in one or both parents increases the possibility of its development in children. However, in children the symptoms may differ from those of the adults so we must be aware of any changes in their behavior and to refer to an expert that is specialized in the particular developmental stages, so that the best possible evaluation that will determine the therapy is provided.
